Senior marketing judgment, applied to your business.

For companies whose marketing has outgrown its current owner. I diagnose, set the strategy, build what is missing and, when it helps, lead the function part-time: plan, budget, agencies and a report to the CEO on pipeline, not activity.

Common questions

Marketing leadership, part-time

Strategy, annual plan, budget, vendor management and CEO-level reporting, on a retainer that fits the stage of the business. Call it a fractional CMO if you like; I call it running your marketing one or two days a week.

  • Marketing strategy and annual plan
  • Budget, agency and vendor management
  • Board and CEO reporting

Marketing function build

For the company about to hire its first marketer, or that just lost one. I stand up brand, website, CRM, attribution and reporting, then hire and train the team to run it.

  • Brand and website foundation
  • CRM, attribution and dashboards
  • Hiring plan and onboarding

Revenue operations

Lifecycle stages, lead scoring and routing, SLAs and sales enablement in HubSpot or Salesforce, so both teams agree on what a good lead is.

  • Lead to MQL to SQL design
  • HubSpot and Salesforce configuration
  • Sales training and enablement

Search and AI visibility

Be found whether buyers search or ask. Technical SEO, content structured for answer engines, and a way to measure presence in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini.

  • Technical SEO and site performance
  • AEO and GEO content strategy
  • AI visibility audits
Is this you?

Built for the gap between a first marketer and a full team.

Typically $2M to $50M in revenue, 10 to 200 people, and either no marketing leader or a first marketer who needs senior direction.

01

Marketing is run on the side.

The founder, the sales leader or an office manager owns it between other jobs, and it shows in the pipeline.

02

There is activity, but no plan.

Agencies and freelancers produce work, nobody owns the strategy, the budget or the number it is supposed to move.

03

Something big is coming.

A rebrand, a new market, a website that has to be rebuilt, an acquisition, or AI search eating the traffic you used to count on.

If two of the three sound familiar, and tell me which ones.

The IRMO Playbook

Four moves, in order, every time.

Every engagement runs the same four moves, whether it is a 30-day assessment or a two-year rebuild. The letters are a coincidence I decided to keep.

I

Identify

Days 1 – 30

Find out what is true before deciding what to do. Audit the brand, funnel, data, stack and team. Interview sales. Baseline where you show up in Google and in AI answers.

  • Marketing audit and scorecard
  • ICP and positioning read
  • Prioritized 90-day plan with a number attached
R

Roadmap

Days 30 – 45

Turn the findings into a sequence: what to fix first, what to stop, what to build, who does it, what it costs. Agreed with the CEO or partners before anything is bought.

  • Quarter-by-quarter roadmap
  • Budget and vendor plan
  • Reporting cadence and KPIs
M

Market

Days 45 – 180

Build and launch. Website, CRM and tracking first so nothing leaks, then the few programs most likely to move pipeline: content, search, paid, partners, sales enablement.

  • Foundation rebuilt and instrumented
  • First programs live
  • Weekly pipeline report
O

Optimize

Ongoing

Read the numbers, cut what is not working, double down on what is. Train the team or hire the person who will run it, document everything, and hand off clean when the time comes.

  • Monthly optimization review
  • Playbooks and SOPs
  • Hire-and-train or hand-off plan

Before we talk

The questions people ask first.

Short answers to the things most people want to know before they send the form. Anything else, ask in the note.

Are you a fractional CMO?
When that is what a company needs, yes: senior marketing leadership one or two days a week, with the plan, budget and reporting that come with it. I use the broader title because most engagements start with a diagnosis and end up somewhere specific: a function to build, a website to rebuild, a pipeline to fix, a team to train. The title describes the work, not the org chart.
When does a company need one?
Usually when marketing has outgrown its current owner: the founder or sales leader runs it on the side, a first marketer needs senior direction, agencies produce activity without pipeline, or the company is preparing for growth, a rebrand or an acquisition.
How is this different from an agency?
An agency executes the work it sells. A consultant who leads sits on your side of the table: setting strategy, choosing and managing agencies, owning the budget and reporting results to leadership.
Which industries do you work with?
Most of my work has been in financial services and mortgage, legal and professional services, HR and B2B SaaS, franchise systems, senior care and e-commerce.
How do engagements start?
Send the form with a few lines about where marketing is today and what the business needs from it. I reply personally, usually within one business day, and if it makes sense we get on a call. If there is a fit after that, the first phase is the Identify step of the IRMO Playbook: a 30-day assessment that ends in a prioritized plan, so you know what you are buying before you commit to anything longer.
What should I have ready?
Nothing formal. The current website, a rough sense of budget and timing, and an honest read on what is and is not working are plenty. If you have a brief or an RFP, attach it in the note and I will respond to it directly.
How are engagements priced?
By scope, not by the hour, and the prices are published above. The 30-day assessment is $4,500 and is credited in full toward a retainer started within 60 days. Advisory is $3,500 a month, part-time leadership is $7,500 a month for one day a week or $12,500 for two, and projects are fixed-fee from $8,000. You will have a number in writing before any work starts.
